Coach Laura is passionate about sports, activity and physical fitness.   A licensed mechanical engineer and quality leader for more than a decade, she has recently decided to follow her passion as a coach to merge her volunteer life with her professional life.  Long an advocate for sports in the Brockville community as a track and field coach with the Pirates at Thousands Islands Secondary School and Brockville Legion Track and Field Club, she was a leader in bringing the vision of an indoor track and field training facility, now located at Stingers Indoor Paintball, to life.  A dedicated youth coach who has produced numerous high school (OFSAA), provincial club and more than 25 national and international medalists in Track and Field, she looks forward to bringing her technical knowledge of speed, power, bio-mechanics and fundamental movement all mixed with fun to LifeFit Athletics.

A long time believer in giving back, she is a mentor in the Ontario Changing the Game – Changing the Conversation Woman in Coaching Program.

In my youth, I was fortunate to have a wide exposure to a  variety of sports and physical activity. Whether it was hiking with my family, playing field hockey with school, or racing on provincial and national speed skating teams – physical movement formed an integral part of who I was and still does. Watching the Olympic experiences of my siblings also allowed for a connection to the elite aspect of sport. Confidence and a desire to be physically active are both gifts from my childhood. Supportive clubs and coaches were a big part of why these experiences were healthy and positive. Now that I have my own children, and coach other youth at the local speed skating club, I want to instill in them the same love of physical movement and the same willingness to find physical challenges fun. I’m proud of all the athletes that we have produced, and love to find that special lesson that a child is going to learn from our sport, in our programs. I’m fascinated by the research and information coming from Canada Sport for Life, believe strongly in the values of the sport development model, and want to aid our community in embracing a healthy mindset with respect to sport. Sport is indeed a good training ground for life.
